Cookie Policy

Last updated: September 11, 2025

This page explains what cookies are, how I use them on the site, and how you can control them. By using the site, you agree to the cookies described here.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) when you visit a website. They help remember things about your visit to make the site work better for you.

Cookies aren't harmful—they can't carry viruses or access personal information on your device without permission.

2. What Cookies I Use

Currently, I use two types of cookies. Additional cookies will be used if I start showing ads:

2.1 Essential Cookies

Purpose: Make basic site features work.

Examples:

  • Remembering if you prefer dark mode or light mode
  • Keeping your feedback form open while you type

Can you turn them off?: No—they're needed for the site to work properly.

2.2 Analytics Cookies

Purpose: Help me see how people use the site so I can improve it.

Examples (from Google Analytics):

  • Which tutorials are most popular
  • How long people spend reading each guide
  • How people find the site (e.g., Google search)

Data Controller: Google LLC (see Google's Privacy Policy)

Can you turn them off?: Yes—see section 4 below.

3. How Long Cookies Stay on Your Device

Cookies don't stay forever:

  • Session cookies: Disappear when you close your browser (e.g., some essential cookies)
  • Permanent cookies: Stay for a set time:
    • Essential cookies (e.g., dark mode preference): up to 1 year
    • Analytics cookies (Google Analytics): up to 2 years
    • Advertising cookies: typically 13-24 months (varies by provider)

4. How to Control Cookies

You can manage cookies in a few ways:

4.1 Cookie Consent Banner

When you first visit the site, you'll see a cookie banner that lets you:

  • Accept all cookies (essential, analytics, and advertising if available)
  • Reject non-essential cookies (only essential cookies will be used)
  • Customize your preferences for each category

4.2 Browser Settings

Most browsers let you control cookies. Here's how to find the settings:

  • Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data
  • Safari: Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data
  • Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data
  • Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Manage and delete cookies

From here, you can delete cookies, block new ones, or set preferences for specific sites.

4.3 Turn Off Analytics Cookies

To stop Google Analytics from collecting data, you can:

5. Changes to This Policy

I'll update this policy if I start using new types of cookies (like ad cookies). When I do, I'll change the "Last updated" date at the top. You can check back here anytime to see what cookies are being used. If I make significant changes, I'll display a notice on the site to inform you about the updates.
